Hometown Media Group Branding

Hometown Media Group is a small, recently formed media company that was recently created to oversee two local newspapers in Indiana - the Western Wayne News and the Nettle Creek Gazette.

The goal for this project was definitely a challenge - create an overarching identity system for the HMG that also established identities for the two local papers with ties to the parent. We accomplished this by creating a logo that worked differently depending on how it was rotated. When vertical, the icon takes on the shape of a house - one roof over two building blocks. When horizontal, we see the "H" representing the parent company, and the shape becomes an arrow pointing towards the wordmark.

From there, we established a different set of typography for the newspapers, one that was more familiar in nature due to the traditional forms of Georgia. The minimal icon keeps the logos looking modern and fresh, but the type is chunky and hard to miss, creating an unusual identity that will command attention at the top of a paper.
